Much awaited release of Garry's 2019 pinot noir.
The 2019 vintage experienced favourable mild to warm weather which allowed fruit to achieve optimal flavour ripeness.
This wine was whole bunch pressed with a wild yeast ferment and spent 11 months in French oak barriques (50% new).
Subtle florals and citrus lead to white stone fruit. Pure fruited and finessed with acid steering the palate. A beautiful, elegant wine.

Unashamedly this wine has a spicy herbal nose that is entirely attributed to the technique of partial whole bunch fermentation. Time in the glass allows layers of vibrant fruit to emerge until eventually the marriage of these two characters becomes seamless. It is the palate, however, that truly justifies the ferment technique with amazingly fine and textured tannins providing length and breadth to the wine well beyond those availed by conventional winemaking methods. Although drinking beautifully now, this wine will reward substantial cellaring, perhaps even for 24 years and beyond.

Halliday Wine Companion 2022
Defying convention and looking to the great Vin Jaune wines of the Jura region in France for inspiration this wine was whole bunched pressed to old French barriques before natural fermentation and malolactic conversion. Following ferment the barrels were moved to a well ventilated shed (away from the winery proper) where conditions were perfect for the gradual growth of the flor yeast on the surface of the increasingly ullaged barrels. Amazingly this wine has not been topped for its entire 4 year ageing period, relying on the protective properties of the yeast voile to avoid excessive oxidation. Bottling took place in May 2020 without any filtration, fining, stabilization or the significant addition of SO2.
This wine displays many of the desired nutty aldehyde (almost sherry like) characters that can be expected after prolonged ageing under flor. A complex array of flavours, amongst them preserved lemon, grilled nuts & exotic spice. A palate of tremendous breadth and length with mouth filling chalky texture and persistanct acid drive.
