“Zumma” became a childhood nickname for Garry and Margaret’s daughter Zoe, who was affectionately known as Zoe Zoe Zum Zum to family and friends. With such sentimental value, it was the perfect name for this single vineyard limited release, made from some of the Crittenden family’s oldest and most treasured vines.
Tasting Notes
This Chardonnay is rich and layered, offering aromas of white peach, nectarine and toasted cashew. The palate is complex yet refined, with notes of ripe stone fruit, citrus zest and a subtle creaminess. Hints of oak spice and a touch of flint add depth, while balanced acidity brings freshness and finesse to the long, elegant finish.
Best Paired With
Roast chicken with thyme butter, grilled scallops, creamy fish pie.
Media Reviews
Light straw yellow tones. White peach, seaspray and roast hazelnut aromatics. A powerful wine: the core has intense peach fruit along with layers of caramelised nuts, bacon fat and oyster brine savouries built around it. Acidity brings good tension and drive without compressing the depth, so it carries long with a richness to the finish
Stuart Knox, The Real Review
The Zumma always needs a bit more time to loosen up as it’s aged 11 months in 60% new barrels and the oak hasn’t quite infused into the wine; it should eventually. Good flavours, though, from white peach to lemon zest and juice, a hint of saline, too, and grilled almonds. Plenty of toasty, cedary oak adding some weight, although this is certainly a very tight rendition thanks to its refreshing acidity.
