Garry's Projects

Although in semi-retirement, Garry Crittenden continues to make the wines he loves to drink. Each year he sets aside a small parcel of Pinot Noir from the vines he planted himself in 1982 and makes a single barrel his own way, without intervention. Every release carries a new name, a new label and a new story, most of them drawn from a piece of art that has caught his eye.

THE POEM

I've dug in the earth and pulled at the root
of my shadows dark vein and my story gone mute,
I've burned with the blue of an old man in time
And now give away what never was mine,
Yes I give all away what never was mine.

Garry Crittenden (Winemaker/Poet)

THE FIRST ONE

The Big Chair was the release that began the annual project. Having handed the winemaking and marketing reins to Rollo and Zoe, Garry set aside a parcel of estate Pinot each vintage so he could, in his words, make the wine his way and without intervention.
