2022 Catto

Garry's take on Nero d'Avola, the Sicilian variety he has long admired for producing wines of finesse in a warm climate. Bright and fresh with an astonishing crimson colour, sitting somewhere between a pinot noir and a shiraz.

NOSE

A pretty, floral and spicy nose with lots of red fruits.

Mouth-filling and juicy, finishing with eastern spices.

Catto

Catto is one of Garry Crittenden's own labels, first made in 2020. The legendary Italian variety Nero d'Avola has its origin near the town of Avola in southern Sicily. Translated it means "Black of Avola", named for the grape's distinctive dark colouring.

THE VARIETY

Italian Nero d'Avolas possess elegance and finesse, quite remarkable given the warm climate in which they are grown. They are always bright and fresh with astonishing crimson luminescence, somewhere between say a Pinot Noir and a Shiraz.

Best paired with

  2. Spaghetti primavera
  3. Slow roast tomatoes with oregano
