2023 Air Like Wine

Named for the clean Peninsula air that convinced Garry to plant vines here over 40 years ago, and made from a single barrel of that same estate fruit. Garry keeps each year's label a secret, so you have to buy the bottle to see it.

Garry's Projects

Although in semi-retirement, Garry Crittenden continues to make the wines he loves to drink. Each year he sets aside a small parcel of Pinot Noir from the vines he planted himself in 1982 and makes a single barrel his own way, without intervention. Every release carries a new name, a new label and a new story, most of them drawn from a piece of art that has caught his eye.

IN GARRY'S WORDS

"When I moved to the Mornington Peninsula 60 years ago my profound impression was the bright impact of Mother Nature. The air was fresh and clean, like a good wine, the beaches a joy to walk on and the hinterland almost eternally green. It didn't take me long to seek to indulge my passion in wine and plant some grapes. The rest, as they say, is history."

THE LABEL

Despite no longer being involved in the day to day running of the business, overseeing his Pinot Noir each year allows Garry to flex his winemaking skills and to indulge the creative side of label design. A long time aficionado of both art and wine, his annual project lets both worlds collide. It began more than six years ago when he turned one of his favourite pieces of art into a wine label, and has continued along those lines ever since. Each year Garry keeps the label a secret; a lover of surprises, he insists you buy the wine to see it.
